چکیده

Abstract. This work presents unprecedented, high-resolution palaeomagnetic data from the sedimentary record of Lake Levinson-Lessing, deepest lake in northern central Siberia. Palaeomagnetic analyses were carried out on 730 discrete samples upper 38 m 46 long core Co1401, which was recovered part lake. Alternating field demagnetization experiments to obtain characteristic remanent demagnetization. The relative palaeointensity is determined using magnetic susceptibility, anhysteretic magnetization, and isothermal magnetization for normalization partial natural magnetization. chronology Co1401 derives correlation 642 with GLOPIS-75 reference curve, accelerated mass spectrometer radiocarbon ages, optically stimulated luminescence dating. study focuses > 10 ka but also preliminary results younger core. includes geomagnetic excursions Laschamps Mono resolves sufficient features establish a that continuously covers last ∼ 62 kyr. reveal continuous sedimentation at high rates between 45 95 cm kyr−1. low variability compared datasets records lower may be due smoothing effect associated lock-in depths. DISENTANGLING GEOMAGNETIC AND PRECIPITATION SIGNALS IN AN 80-KYR CHINESE LOESS RECORD OF 10Be

The cosmogenic radionuclide 10Be is produced by cosmic-ray spallation in Earth’s atmosphere. Its production rate is regulated by the geomagnetic field intensity, so that its accumulation rate in aeolian sediments can, in principle, be used to derive high-resolution records of geomagnetic field changes. However, 10Be atmospheric fallout rate also varies locally depending on rainfall rate. The ac...

A Holocene tephra record from the Lofoten Islands, Arctic Norway

A tephrochronology has been established for a peat bog in the Lofoten Islands that provides a dating framework for future lake and bog studies of climate variation in this climatically sensitive area. Twenty-three tephra layers were identified, all apparently of Icelandic origin. These included the historically dated tephras of AD 1875 (Askja), AD 1362 (Öraefajökull), AD 1158 (Hekla), AD 1104 (...

Intriguing climatic shifts in a 90 kyr old lake record from northern Russia

A 22m long sediment core from Lake Yamozero on the Timan Ridge in northern Russia has provided evidence of intriguing climatic shifts during the last glacial cycle. An overall shallowing of the lake is reflected in the lower part of the cores, where pollen indicates a transition from glacial steppe vegetation to interstadial shrub-tundra. These beds are capped by a well-defined layer of compact...

Geomagnetic field inclinations for the past 400 kyr from the 1km core of the Hawaii Scientific Drilling Project

A volcanic record of geomagnetic field inclination for the past ~400 kyr at Hila, Hawaii, has been obtained from the 941.5 m of core recovered by the Hawaii Scientific Drilling Project. The analysis of 195 lava flows reveals six instances of near-zero inclination and two instances of fully negative inclination (reverse polarity) within an otherwise normal-polarity core. In particular, flow unit...
